Thank You

Our sincerest thanks to the committee members of the Caernarfon Swimming Club for deciding to donate all proceeds raised by the John Sharp Gala sponsored long distance swim this year towards the Walton Neurology Centre in memory of Guto.

Our special thanks to the children who took part in the swim, to all who sponsored them, and to everyone who gave their support.

We very much appreciate your generosity.

Gwynfor and Nesta Williams and family, Pen y Groes

About the Club:

Caernarfon Swimming Club has been going for approximately 17 years and it is run by interested parents, on a voluntary basis.

We are a competitive club. This means that if you are chosen to swim for the club in ‘club galas’ we expect you to make every effort to attend. Obviously we do not expect you to swim if you are ill, away or have a broken limb – well, not usually!!! - but we do expect you to attend as many as you can – there are only 3 a year! This does not mean that you will always do individual events, it might only be in a relay team, but this is just as important. All swims gain us points so without a relay team we lose out.

Every year we have a Club Championship – the ‘John Sharp Gala’. This is held in November and once again we expect every member to enter. This is a great way to see if you are improving your times/fitness. Also, the Team Manager uses the times to choose swimmers to swim for the club. If you do not enter this then you are less likely to be chosen.

We expect members to turn up regularly to sessions. This is really important as you will not improve or reach your full potential if sessions are continuously missed. We have a policy that if three sessions are missed in a row without a reason being given your place is lost. All it takes is a phone call or a word with one of the coaches.

The club is a member of the Cymru Coast League. This League is made up of 6 teams along the coast – Bangor, Ynys Mon, Llandudno, Colwyn Bay, Rhyl and Caernarfon. There are 3 galas throughout the year. There is also a relay gala.

As mentioned above the club is run by parents on a voluntary basis. These parents do a variety of jobs from coaching and committee posts to organizing drinks at galas, all of which are important - some doing more than one! Any parent who is interested in helping in any way is more than welcome. Please contact the courses organiser. There are various courses you can attend, so don’t feel you can’t because you don’t know how!

All swimmers have to be registered with Swim Wales for insurance purposes as part of their membership.

Session payments are termly/in advance. A payment form is sent out before the end of each term, which should be returned to the treasurer.

Any further queries can be emailed to Club officials using the links on the page.

Thank you/Diolch,

Joanna Marston – Club Chairperson
